Magnetic Albums

Although these albums are called Magnetic photo albums they are actually not magnetic at all.

These albums were most popular in the 70s, 80s, and 90s as a fast way to create a scrapbook without using a sleeved album. This type of albums come with a thick layer of glue or adhesive that allows you peel back the plastic covering, stick on a photo or snapshot onto the adhesive, and restick the plastic to seel in the photos. These albums were very cost effective and a time saver in their day as an altertative to scrapbooking. Within those decades over 64 million albums were sold so chances are you have this type of album laying around and this could mean harm to the photographs seeled inside the pages. The reason being, because these albums were very cost effective the materials used as the albums became more popular became cheaper. This means that the chemicals, adhesive and cardboard paper use in the albums arent ideal for archiving your photos. Over time these chemicals have often made once bright and cheering colorful photos to a yellow toned mess.

If you have photos in this type of album it is best to get them archieved right away before it is too late!
